Data Collection

Slow Reader does not collect any personal data. All app data is stored locally on your device. We do not have servers that store your information, and we do not track your usage of the app.

Data Storage

The following data is stored locally on your device:

• Books you've added to your library
• Reading progress for each book
• Chat conversations with the AI companion
• Your Claude API key
• App settings and preferences

This data never leaves your device except when communicating with the third-party services described below.

Third-Party Services

The app connects to the following third-party services:

• Anthropic Claude API: When you chat with the AI companion, your messages and the current paragraph of text are sent to Anthropic's servers. This is required for the AI features to work. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details on how they handle data.
• Project Gutenberg: When you search for or download books, requests are made to gutenberg.org. No personal information is sent.

API Key Security

Your Claude API key is stored locally on your device and is only transmitted to Anthropic's API servers when you use the AI chat features. It is never shared with any other party, including us.

We recommend treating your API key as sensitive information and not sharing it with others.

Data Export

You can export all your data (books, progress, conversations) as a JSON file at any time from the Settings screen in the app. This gives you full control over your data and allows you to back it up or transfer it to another device.

Children's Privacy

Slow Reader is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
